Tone-on-Tone Makeup

A color-coordinated makeup look like Petra Nemcova’s would look excessive if done with bolder hues, but the soft apricot shade her makeup artist Jenna Menard chose added a romantic vibe to her low chignon. “I wanted to create a look on Petra that did nothing more than accentuate her own beauty in a soft and effortless way,” said Menard, who used Clinique products. “I accomplished this by defining the eyes by combining multiple neutral shimmer shadows, highlighting the skin with blush, and a nude lip.” After setting her foundation, Menard added a sweep of peach blush just below the star’s cheekbones as a subtle contour. She used a cream shadow on Nemcova’s eyes to give the powder shadows staying power. A duo of copper-hued shadows was blended on top, with the deeper shades blended into the outer portion of the model’s crease. “I worked the darker shade more into the outer portion of the lid, just hitting the lower brow bone to elongate the eyes,” Menard added. “It is important that when the eyes are open, you see a hint of this shadow.” A swipe of a tawny nude lip balm gave Nemcova’s lips a just-kissed flush. Perfect!
