Balanced Lips and Eyes
Smoky eyes don't always have to take center stage. At the world premiere of J. Edgar in Hollywood, Naomi Watts's strong lip stayed in perfect balance with her soft eye makeup. "I drew inspiration from Naomi's steely taupe Stella McCartney dress, and I wanted to create a lush, rich feeling with her eyes and lips," says Clarins makeup artist Pati Dubroff, who created this look for Watts. Dubroff started by using a matte taupe shadow to contour the actress's eyes, then blended a grey shadow onto Watts's lid. Leave out the eyeliner if you plan to recreate this look. "Eyeliner can create hard lines around the eyes, and the idea is to really blend the shadow so it gives a halo effect," Dubroff says.
