We loved Marion Cotillard’s oversized ballerina updo at the Cannes Film Festival, and while many of us won’t wear a bun of that size to our day jobs, you can easily alter it for everyday use. Use the same steps Cotillard’s hairstylist Robert Vetica took, but go for a smaller size. Vetica began by pulling hair back into a ponytail, then spritzing on a hairspray to impart a sleek finish. He then teased the ponytail with a fine-tooth comb, creating a puff-like shape and attaching an elastic band to the end. Vetica then tucked in the end underneath the base of the ponytail, attaching them together. Hold the chignon in place, and shape it into a bun using bobby pins to secure the style. “A couple is not enough! Use a ton of hair pins to make the style secure, and finish with an ample amount of strong-hold hairspray,” Vetica said.
