Mauve Lip Gloss

While a mauve lip color can be a little unexpected among spring’s standard candy petal shades, the hue walks the line between pink and lavender while holding a slight antiquated feel. Like a good nude lipstick, dusty rose glosses are great one-size-fits-all options for balancing smoky shadows or wearing alone. Take the subtle version Fairly Legal star Sarah Shahi wore—a sheer pink could have been too much against her shimmery eye, but the cool undertones subdued the effect without washing out her own natural lip color. “We went with mauvy, cool-toned colors on the eyes and lips instead of the usual girly pinks because we wanted a more sophisticated, sexy look,” said Shahi’s makeup artist Nick Barose. While Barose used a transparent gloss on the actress, a more saturated color amps up the natural pigmentation in your lips without appearing cloying. Look for a product with a cream finish, which delivers even coverage with a bolder color payoff, but steer clear of matte lipsticks to avoid a chalky effect.
