Bold Red Lip

Scarlett Johansson’s red lip and blue shadow at the Broadway premiere of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof had a slight ‘80s vibe, but her makeup artist Gianpaolo Ceciliato gave the look a modern twist by placing the emphasis on the star’s lips rather than her eyes. Since red lipstick tends to bring out redness in the complexion, Ceciliato used a foundation by Dolce & Gabbana to give the star an almost-airbrushed finish. When going for a strong eye and lip combo, start by applying makeup to the area you want to emphasize first. That way, you’ll be able to gauge how intense to go with the rest of your look. Statement-making colors lose their impact when layered over parched lips, so before applying the color, use a sugar scrub to slough away dry skin. Ceciliato applied a touch of clear lip gloss over Johansson’s lipstick to add shine and lock in moisture.
