Graphic Manicure

Intricate nail art never fails to make a statement, but sometimes simple, understated patterns have an bigger impact. Case in point: the two-toned manicure Kerry Washington wore to the premiere of her new film, Peeples. We love how it mirrored the clean lines of her Narciso Rodriguez dress, but didn't distract from the rest of her look. The key to getting this manicure right is to paint on precise lines, as any uneven areas become prominent with the black and white color palette. Just like foundation primer creates a perfect canvas for your makeup, a matte top coat forms a smooth, bump-free texture for your nail lacquer to adhere. After applying a black nail color as a base, sweep a clear matte polish over the top. Then once it dries, use a fine-tipped brush to sweep on the white V-shape. This ensures an even application and a more precise pattern.
