At first glance, the shiny finger waves Lily Collins
wore to the Madrid premiere of Mortal Instruments
looked like something Daisy Buchanan a la The Great Gatsby
would have sported, but the sleek texture paired with exposed bobby pins in the back gave the style a more current feel. "I knew I wanted to do a classic style with a '20s feel," said her hairstylist Mara Roszak, who began by spritzing sections of Collins' hair with a heat protectant to create a solid foundation. To impart an ultra-smooth texture, Roszak slightly dampened the star's roots, then created a graphic side part and combed a touch of gel through the wet portion of hair. She clipped a smooth S-shaped wave onto her forehead area to dry and set in place, then added waves to the rest of Collins' hair with a medium-barrel curling iron. "Once the hair was all dry, I unclipped the bangs and gently brushed out the bottom," Roszak added. "With long black bobby pins, I created a slightly staggered look around the head, allowing the style to stay flat, while adding a modern accessory with exposed bobby pins."
