Soft Smoky Eye

While a smoky eye often runs the risk of looking severe, Jessica Alba got the effect just right at the Los Angeles premiere of A.C.O.D. thanks to some careful blending and well-placed shadow. By concentrating the darker hues at the outer corners of her eyes, the sexy, smoldering effect is still apparent without dominating her entire look. To create a similar effect, we recommend layering on a primer to ensure the eye shadow doesn’t crease or fade. The easiest way to go is to start with a grey-toned cream shadow, and then build up color as needed from there. Use a dome-tipped shadow brush to work a black hue into the outer corners of your eyes, then use the same brush to blend a translucent powder or bronzer over the edges to soften. Add a swipe of liner along your top lash line, then use a small brush to smudge it slightly. Continue the liner along the lower rim of your eyes, then finish with a generous coating of mascara.
