We love the carefree beachy look, but the unkempt texture can have you looking too casual for formal events. Consider Olivia Wilde’s structured waves as a happy medium between fresh from the beach hair and too-stiff curls. Her ringlets still have a laid-back vibe, but look polished thanks to the shine and extra definition. To create the style, her hairstylist David Babaii applied a hair oil to damp strands, then rough-dried it to give it lift and texture. Once dry, Babaii parted her strands to the side and misted on a texturizing spray before wrapping sections around a large-barrel curling iron. “For more natural looking waves, I alternated the direction of each curl,” he said. “I twisted and lifted the top area to create a modern-day ‘40s roll, then secured with a large bobby pin.” A final spritz of hairspray gave her style extra staying power.
