Green Smoky Eye

A full-on sable eye may seem too fussy as the weather gets warmer, but that doesn’t mean the smoky eye is obsolete. Take Ahna O’Reilly, who opted for a smoky emerald eye at a dinner for Naeem Khan in Los Angeles. “Ahna’s dress had gorgeous olive and gold detailing, which gave me my inspiration for a new take on the traditional smoky eye,” her makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan said. “I used an olive khaki shadow color to create her modern eye, while keeping the rest of the face pretty natural.” Deenihan began by blending a deep green shadow across O’Reilly’s lid, and swept a bit under ther lower lash line. She then layered another shimmery olive onto the center above her iris. “Placing a shimmery color above her iris made the eye open up—it caught the light and made her eye appear larger.” To add a touch of warmth and depth to O’Reilly’s look, Deenihan blended a tawny brown shadow into the star’s crease. “This modern eye is a fun new way to achieve drama while still being able to play with color,” she added.
