Perhaps we’re inspired by the swingin’ sixties fashion of Mad Men, but the mod-inspired makeup Emma Roberts wore to the Intermix 20th anniversary party looks like something Megan Draper would pair with her printed shift dresses—save for the modern pop of color. “The real mod eyes used mostly black and white to create a graphic look, but when you play around with color like blue and white, it makes the effect quirkier, softer, and easier to wear for summer,” said Roberts’ makeup artist Nick Barose, who created the look with a double-ended blue and white liner. He lined the star’s upper lash line with the cerulean end, smudged the color with a cotton swab, then ran the white color along Roberts’ waterline. In addition to the mod effect it imparts, white eyeliner also gives you a more-awake appearance by creating the illusion of bigger eyes. If white seems too harsh for you, ease into the trend by using a flesh-toned eyeliner instead, and be sure to work with a sharpened pencil as dull products can tug at your eye. Apply the color before sweeping on mascara—unlike black eyeliner, white tends to be more obvious if it gets on your bottom lashes.
