Vampy wine tones and sanguine red lipsticks had a serious moment over the fall, but a cheerful fruit punch hue like Padma Lakshmi
’s adds a seasonal pop of color to any ensemble. We love how the bright pink veers from the standard crimson lipstick choices, but isn’t too avant garde for use off the red carpet. “We went for a ‘70s glam look inspired by Guy Bourdin’s vintage fashion photos,” said her makeup artist Nick Barose. “Bold colors pop more on deeper skin, so it’s a great way to add drama without having to do a lot of makeup.” Barose layered a matte lip tar underneath a tinted balm for a budge-proof color with a slight glossy sheen. Matte lip colors tend to last longer than products with satin finishes, so be sure to follow Lakshmi’s lead if you want your hue to last all night. If bright colors are a beauty risk for you, take a baby step in the same direction by re-purposing the day-glo hue as a stain. Use your finger to dab the shade onto your lips, building up the intensity as needed. The result? A saturated color with a sheer, non-intimidating finish.
