Gilded Makeup

Pairing 24-karat makeup with a gold-toned dress runs the risk of channeling a disco revival, but Emily Blunt got the combination just right at the Gotham Awards in New York City by sticking to sheer colors with without too much shimmer. “I was going for a pretty and feminine look with everything from my Calvin Klein Collection dress, to my makeup’s golden hue,” she said. “I felt beautiful!” When coordinating your makeup with your dress, take a tip from the star and use more subdued tones on the face. Blunt’s eye makeup was a perfect match to her gold pearl necklace, but the aptly-placed shadows kept the effect from seeming too matchy-matchy. Concentrate most of the sparkle along the inner corners of your eyes and along your browbone to impart a lifted appearance, then blend the colors out using matte shadows as a contrast. A sweep of warm blush across the apples of Blunt’s cheeks and a gold-flecked lipgloss kept the “bronze goddess” vibe consistent.
