Tousled Strands

"I wanted Selena Gomez's hair to look effortless and young," said hairstylist John D who worked with the star for the 2011 Kid's Choice Awards in Los Angeles. He worked a few drops of styling oil into damp hair to add shine before rough-drying with his hands. Working with a one-inch flatiron, the hairstylist clipped and heated medium sections of the hair. "I wasn't trying to straighten the hair," he explains. "I wanted to create a natural bend." When trying a similar technique, accentuate the natural kinks and curves of your hair with an iron. John D finished by pinning back the hair at the forehead; leaving it loose would work too.
