Bouncy Half-Updo

“It really is one of the best looks for the upcoming festive season,” said Selena Gomez’s hairstylist Sascha Breuer, who created her bouncy look for the UNICEF Snowflake Ball—and we can’t help but agree! “It combines gorgeous flowing hair and long-lasting volume that is easy to achieve.” The most important part of this party-time style is creating a good base, that way it won’t fall flat throughout the night. Spritz a texturizer onto damp hair, then use a blow dryer to work in the product. Breuer used a round brush to impart Gomez’s buoyant waves. “Direct the nozzle of your blow-dryer upwards for added root lift,” he advised. After her hair was completely dry, Breuer wound sections around a medium-barrel curling iron to add movement. Thanks to gentle backcombing at the crown, Gomez’s style also had a slightly retro vibe. “Use a comb to push the hair down toward your roots, and once this base is created, take the remaining sections of loose hair from the sides of your head, and pull them toward the back,” Breuer said. “Grip the sections firmly to hold in the bouffant shape, then fasten the style with hair pins.” A light veil of hairspray gave the style extra staying power. We love it!
