Between her ombre highlights and touchable waves, Lily Aldridge gave us serious hair envy at a Victoria’s Secret holiday event in New York City. Her loose ringlets have definition, but don’t blend together to create one large sausage curl. To prevent this, hairstylist Orlando Pita, who created the bedhead waves at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show this year, recommends winding your curling iron in different directions. “When hair waves naturally, it isn’t uniform,” he said. “The problem with barrel curls is that they look really done and end up blending into each other.” If you start curling a section of hair away from your face, Pita advises changing the direction midway through to break up the texture. Be sure to alternate your ringlets as well: If one section is wound inward, the next should spiral outward, and so on. Wait until your hair has completely cooled before tousling or brushing through the style, then finish with a light veil of hairspray.
