Foiled Smoky Eye

Next to a bold red lip, nothing commands attention like a sexy smoky eye, and Halle Berry’s version at the Los Angeles premiere of Cloud Atlas was no exception. look embodies all the classic elements of a sexy smoky eye, but gets a modern twist with a touch of pewter. “To keep the feeling strong on Halle’s modern, yet romantic, Dolce and Gabbana lace dress, I created an eye look with blended charcoals and shimmery silvers to complement the silver colors in the dress,” said her makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua. “Her lips and cheeks were kept subtle in soft peaches.” The easiest way to recreate Berry’s look is to begin by smoothing on a dark cream shadow or liner. Either product can be blended out for a quick one-step smoky eye, and also give your powder eye shadows extra staying power. Bua used a charcoal gel liner by Revlon on the star’s lids to lay down the first layer of color, then went back in and added silver accents with a powder eye shadow. Harsh lines are the sworn enemy of this effortless look, so pick up a little bronzer or matte face powder with a dome-tipped shadow brush to blend out the edges and create a natural-looking graduation in color.
