Natural Makeup

Don’t toss all of your bronzing powders just yet! While the products are great for creating a tawny summer glow, we love how a light sweep gives Amy Adams’s complexion a natural-looking contour. At the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of The Master, makeup artist Stephen Sollitto complemented the star’s clean skin with a sheer lip and understated eye. Sollitto started by applying a moisturizer with a synthetic brush, followed by a tinted moisturizer blended on using a damp sponge to impart a natural, dewy finish. A touch of aptly-placed bronzer made her skin more radiant, and broke up the singular color of the tinted moisturizer. “I always add bronzer on every girl I work with. If you add foundation, the face is one blank canvas of color,” he said. “By adding bronzer, there is more dimension, which makes the skin look natural.” For the most natural appearance, apply a matte bronzer to your temples, and blend it upward toward your hairline. Then, sweep the product onto the hollows of your cheeks and sides of the nose as a contour. Continuity is key when it comes to using bronzer, so to keep from having contrasting tones on your face and body, be sure to continue blending the color underneath the jawline and onto the neck area as well.
